Holistic Detoxification – an essential tool for optimal health
Each and everyday we are bombarded with toxins such as heavy metals and synthetic chemicals. Currently there are over 84,000 synthetic chemicals in the USA alone. Many of them having devastating effects on the body, as well as the planet and all it’s species. Each day we are consistently exposed to toxins found in the air, ocean, land, water, food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, household and commercial goods.
Toxicity can lead to health conditions such as cancer, autoimmune disease, infertility, neurological disorders (especially in newborns), Alzheimer’s, mineral deficiencies, oxidative stress, chronic fatigue syndrome, DNA damage, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and so on.

Detox Fads
With so many detox fads out there, I am not surprised how many people are confused about detoxing. Over the years, I have come across a number of cleanses and detoxes including water detox, juice detox, liver detox, celery juice cleanse, colon cleanse, gallbladder cleanse and many more. The question is how effective are they and will they work for everyone?
So, do these detox fads work? The simple answer is, some work to a degree while others are useless. On the other hand, an ‘Holistic Detox Program” supervised by a naturopath, helps to purify the blood, chelate heavy metals, tonify the kidneys, protect the liver and brain, while supporting phase one and phase 2 detoxification. It is a comprehensive method designed to remove toxins deep within the body.
What is Toxic Load?
Firstly I need to point out that detoxing is more complicated then what most people think. To successfully remove heavy metals and toxins, a number of steps need to be taken. Each individual has inherited a different level of toxic load over their lifespan. Toxic load is the accumulation of toxins in your body which has the potential to damage organs and lead to chronic disease.
What to expect during the detox?
Our naturopath provides you with the tools to gently remove toxins from the body. These tools may include diet, supplements, herbal medicine, exercise, colonic hydrotherapy, coffee enemas and infra-red saunas. The body eliminates toxins through the kidneys, liver, skin, urine, faces, lymphatic system and lungs. A skilled naturopath uses all of these excretory organs at their advantage when preparing for a detox.
What is a healing crisis?
Warning – if you try detoxing without the supervision of a health professional you may experience a healing crisis. A healing crisis is the effect you experience when you push a detox too hard. These symptoms include headache, migraines, rashes and diarrhoea. A healing crisis is only temporary, lasting between 2 days to 2 weeks.
HTMA testing for heavy metal toxicity and mineral imbalances
Testing such as Hair, Tissue, Mineral Analysis (HTMA) and standard pathology may be used. HTMA is a safe and non-invasive pathology test. It measures the levels and comparative ratios of nutrient and toxic minerals found in hair. Utilising pathology helps to monitor the progress of your detox.
